Komorebi : Japanese Noun 木漏れ日 (hiragana こもれび) meaning the interplay between light and leaves when sunlight shines through trees.

We always give
bouquets of flowers.

Today,
I make an offering
of a bouquet of foliage.

Day-dreaming
on my back,
on a rolling tumulus
of verdant green,
in a grove,
looking up
at a canopy of leaves,
as the dappled sun filters through,
creating a myriad mesh,
specks of gold,
chiaroscuro and sfumato.

I have picked
Chinar from the hills,
Mango leaves from the plains
and
Palm leaves
from the coasts
of my beloved country,
to create this
golden glorious offering,
in a three layered flotilla
in the sky.

Sunlight ripens the fruits of trees and furthers the circle of life on our blue planet. On each of the representative leaves are Kirigami fruit patterns, the continuity of the seeds of life embedded within the fruits. The mango leaves have paisley patterns reminding us of glorious mangoes, the palm leaves render coconuts and the Chinār/Platanus leaves are rendered with cutwork of the little known spiky round Chinār fruits. These trees are the symbols of our ancient land, they existed before we existed : Chinār in the Himalayas of the North, the Mango throughout the plains of India and the Palm trees all along our coastal South.
